Jan Groover was born in Plainfield, New Jersey in 1943. Ms. Groover pursued an education in art receiving a female B. F. A. in regards to a painting in 1965, from Pratt Institute in New york then receiving her Master's in Art Education for Ohio State University close by 1969. After teaching art in middle school then University of Hartford in the early 1970's, she turned to improve photography. While she experimented with a range of styles and vision she's perhaps best known to be with her still life images from ordinary objects, kitchen utensils, plants but taking them images with vibrant color and larger than life close ups. She received grants from The state Council on the Arts and also the National Endowment for perhaps the Arts.

Ms. Groover enjoyed a wide range of artistic expression. The larger than life imagery from their personal photography found expression durring an platinum-palladium printing, exaggerated genital with brilliant color as well as luminance. She enjoyed composing and published "Pure Discovery: The Tabletop Still Life" inside 1990. She also taught at the State University of Ny College before moving in finding France where she abides now.

We don't know exactly what led Ms. Groover from a career of formal art with this of photography. She and is particularly quoted stating: "With photography I didn't have to make things up, everything was already there. "

I was originally attracted to Ms. Groover's photographs for their vibrant color and larger than life imagery. In her life, there is a marked departure from photographs depicting motion, time, speed, and color to what perhaps she is best known for, simple everyday objects found in the home. One review states 'she turned to her kitchen sink' for brand new ideas. Many of its photographs depict kitchen flatware, knives, forks, and other subjects found in the home such as servings, dishes, or house grids.

Her pictures were keen on a 4x5 view camcorder. Her photographs stressed and that he illustrated her influence or even obedience to formalism. A favorite photograph of mine, "Untitled, 1979. JG #95. 2'", has a mix of shapes, curves, and lines that is nearly hypnotic and yet i first looked at it, it was easy for my imagination to determine many other things. I realize shell, and ancient ruins, and wares of a workout Roman triumph. Perhaps it's an expression of Ms. Groover's alignment with formalism. Any shape might help captivate.

Does any curves have gratifying qualities? Does any shape have special detail when we take the time to observe? The image above accentuates silver even though we see tarnish float to iridescence and mirrored reflection.

"According to Groover, the meaning of the objects come with of no importance; just the shape, texture, and form that falls into a particular space is genuine. "

What a wonderful tribute inside a photographer and a memento to her art. Her ability to share and just see illuminating quality in certain simple of things names much about her perspective. When I reviewed Microsoft. Groover's work, it is easy to mistake some of her photography with her printing. Her photographs possess some of the 'larger than life' colored and detail... of a print in that privileged with additional transforming. According to one contributor, "Groover makes pictures that are interesting not so much for the things making us as for create show us these things".
