Portable USB Discs - Do Outdoor Photographers Honestly expect One?

Have you been thinking of purchasing and using a portable USB harddisk in your business or for home computing data internal memory?

I am a Market place and Outdoor Photographer, and I needed a way to download all of the larger file format RAW photography captures I take for on an extended on the run photo shoot.

I originated as bringing additional CF cards and swapping them out when full. This worked OK for the initial few away shoots but the money necessary numerous high capacity CF cards have come to hit the budget detrimentally. I started to pick an appropriate way to store substantial files of data using one device without keeping a pocket full of storage cards.

I had some requirements that needed to be met for the database I needed:

  • Reasonable Cost

  • Light weight

  • Portable invest the minimum moving parts

  • Fast write speeds

  • Reliable power supply

  • Easy buying use

  • Easy to be aware of software

  • Compatible with numerous more computer platforms (MAC the PC)

I also recommended to answer the question "Do Thought about need one? "

The high capacity CF cards were taking on the multiple hundreds on your dollars. They were convenient and didn't weigh slightly, but it was daunting keeping them organized. As well, I had to possible until I got home to get a hold of the files, tying in data cards until these people were emptied and reformatted.

I was bringing my portable computer on almost every mean, and it helped preserve the CF cards cleaned nightly at camp or even hotel. There was passes away . though. With the programs and data which people had on my laptop I noticed that my system hdd started to fill, and also operated much slower because doing so had to manage all that data.

The portable hard drive did start to look like an answer to my needs. After a little while of searching the forums and blogs I caved. I got myself one and have never looked back in the decision.

These are the strong points I've found using my external harddisk for my photography data:

Cost: I paid the vivaz $120. 00 for my 1TB portable external hard disk. CF cards that merely held a slight section of the hard drives capacity require me to pay multiple hundreds of bucks.

Size: Physically, the one that I bought possibly same size as an ipod. Fits easily in a pocket, or in my camera bag in a tiny side compartment.

Ease useful and reliable software: Mine was just plug and go. It can be came preloaded with lotion that allowed automatic and even scheduled downloads and backup copies. The system is password protected so that you can, and can be partitioned for different storage needs and route uses.

Download and provide speeds: The hard drives makes it possible for various write speeds, and one that I bought was an instant 5400X. This speed more than meets my need to do a fast and relied on transfer and download. And yes it works on both my MAC and laptop.

Power source: Most products portables are USB pressed, meaning that your computersystem USB port provides type of power needed for the external hard drive. This is convenient in that it is not necessary carry additional batteries, but several, it will drain your printer battery a little faster if the using only portable power using your laptop.

Am I happy with my portable hard drive?

I have had one now for personal training months, and I wonder enjoy it took so long will be able to add one of them to my equipment bag. I'm keen on it.

It is private, fast, has more storage ability to any application that I will put it on for. It will be a "required" actual gear anytime I proceed an extended photo fireplace.
